PING WEDGES

Choosing the correct wedge lofts, bounce and grind has more impact on scoring than almost any other spec. Ping's current wedge families (e.g., s159 and Glide 4.0) offer multiple lofts and several sole grinds so you can match turf, sand and your delivery (shallow vs. steep). Use this quick guide to build the right combination for the UK's varied conditions--from soft parkland to firm links.

WHAT TO CONSIDER

  • Gapping: Confirm carry distances on a launch monitor for PW/GW/SW/LW.
  • Lies you actually face: Prioritise the grind that saves the most shots where you play most.
  • Delivery: Steep → add bounce (H/W/E). Shallow → trim bounce (T/B). Mixed → S is the safe bet.
  • Grooves & finish: Consider raw vs. chrome for glare and spin consistency in the wet.

When you're ready, get a quick fit (Ping's WebFit is a handy start) and then verify outdoors on real turf and sand.

Quick rule of thumb: start with a forgiving, higher-bounce sand wedge (54-56 degrees) you can trust in soft turf and bunkers, then add a gap wedge to fill the yardage from your pitching wedge, and finish with a lob option (58-60 degrees) that suits your home-course lies and how you like to open the face.

Work backwards from your set pitching wedge (PW). Modern PW lofts are often 44-46 degrees. Aim for consistent yardage steps of 10-15 yards between wedges. Two- or three-wedge build? If you carry more fairway woods/hybrids, you can run PW-52-58. If you want maximum precision, go PW-50-54-58 (or PW-50-54-60).

PING BOUNCE ANGLE

Bounce is the angle that helps the sole glide rather than dig. More bounce = more forgiveness in soft turf and sand; less bounce = easier to nip the ball on firm, tight lies. Your swing delivery matters too: steeper players generally benefit from more bounce; shallower players can use less.

PING SOLE GRINDS

Ping's current line-up covers multiple grinds to fit course and swing. Below is a simple matrix to steer you; always confirm with a proper fitting.

Ping Putters Header

PING PUTTERS

Choosing the right PING putter comes down to four essentials -- head design, length, lie angle, and grip. Get these matched to your stroke and posture and you'll start the ball on line more often with better pace control.

Head Design

Head shape influences forgiveness, alignment, and how the putter feels during your stroke. Use your stroke type and typical miss to pick the right shape.

HeadTypical Toe HangBest For StrokeMain BenefitsWatch-outs
Blade: Anser, Kushin, etc. Moderate to strong Arc or strong-arc Elegant look, precise face control, feedback rich Less stable on off-centre strikes vs big mallets
Mid-Mallet: DS72, Shea Slight to moderate Slight-arc or subtle arc Balance of alignment help and feel, versatile Not as compact as blades, not as stable as large mallets
Mallet: Tyne, Fetch, Oslo, Craz-E Face-balanced to slight Straight or slight-arc High MOI stability, easy alignment frames Can feel larger at address for blade purists
Centre-Shaft / Face-BalancedPrime Tyne C Minimal Straight-back-straight-through Face wants to stay square, reduces rotation Less suited to pronounced arcing strokes

PING CUSTOM FITTING - WHAT TO CONSIDER

Ping leads the way in custom fitting, ensuring every golfer gets clubs matched perfectly to their height, swing, and performance goals. A fitting session considers:

  • Loft: Determines ball flight and distance gaps.
  • Shaft Type: Choose graphite for lighter feel or steel for control and feedback.
  • Shaft Flex: Match flex to swing tempo - L, A, R, S, or X.
  • Lie Angle (Colour Code): Ping's famous chart ensures your clubhead sits square at impact.
  • Club Length: Adjusted for your height and wrist-to-floor measurement.
  • Grip Type & Size: Impacts comfort, hand placement, and control.

Every Ping fitting session helps you achieve more consistent distance, accuracy, and confidence -- so your equipment performs as well as you do.

Ping Golf offers something for every level -- from forgiving game improvement clubs to precision tour blades. Explore the latest Ping range today and experience innovation trusted by golfers worldwide.

PING COLOUR CODE LIE ANGLE CHART

Ping's Colour Code System helps golfers achieve optimal lie angles for consistent, accurate ball striking. Lie angle is determined by a player's height and wrist-to-floor measurement, ensuring the club sole sits level at impact. Below is Ping's standard Colour Code Chart.

PING GRIP COLOUR CODE CHART

Ping's Grip Colour Code system ensures your grip size matches your hand dimensions for optimal control, comfort, and shot consistency. The correct grip size helps you achieve proper release and grip pressure through impact, enhancing both feel and accuracy.

WHY GRIP SIZE IS IMPORTANT

CLUBFACE CONTROL & START LINE

DELIVERY & DYNAMIC LIE

A thicker grip can make the club feel lighter in the hands (lower perceived swing-weight) and quieten wrist hinge; a thinner grip can raise hand activity. Both influence shaft lean and dynamic lie, affecting strike height and turf interaction.

CONSISTENCY & SPEED CONTROL

The right thickness stabilises your grip pressure so you don't choke it on tight shots or loosen it on long ones, improving contact quality and distance control through the bag, and pace control on putts.

COMFORT & HEALTH

Proper sizing spreads pressure across the fingers and palm, reducing hotspots, fatigue and flare-ups such as elbow or wrist irritation. This matters on cold, wet UK days when grip pressure tends to creep up.

GLOVE-OFF FEEL IN THE WET

With PING's different textures and compounds available, the correct size plus the right material helps you hold light pressure in rain without slipping, maintaining speed without tension.

SHOT SHAPING VS STRAIGHT-LINE BIAS

Players who work the ball may prefer a slightly slimmer feel for added face rotation; those chasing straight-line control often benefit from a fraction thicker to quieten the hands.

On-course SymptomLikely CauseTry This Grip AdjustmentWhat to Look For
Pulls / hooks (face closing) Excess hand action Test one size thicker (or +2 tape wraps) Straighter start line, calmer release
Blocks / weak fades (face staying open) Restricted release Test one size slimmer (or remove wraps) Improved face closure, stronger flight
Inconsistent strike / heavy grip pressure Grip too small causing squeeze Go thicker; choose softer texture Lighter pressure, centred strikes
Loss of feel / difficulty shaping Grip too large, muting feedback Go slimmer by one step Sharper feel, easier shot shaping
Hands slipping in rain Size/texture mismatch Keep size, switch to high-traction/wet-weather compound Secure hold at light pressure
