The Masters of Forging excel once again, with the all new Mizuno JPX923 Range

Mizuno JPX923 Iron Review

The wait is over with the release of the JPX923 Series of golf irons by Mizuno. The JPX923 series includes 5 iron models – JPX 923 Tour, Forged, Hot Metal Pro, Hot Metal and Hot Metal HL.

Using their unique DNA device Mizuno collected real swing data from over 350,000 golfers over a two-year period to help them build these great new golf irons. The Tour and Forged models aren’t available right now, these are due for release early in 2023.

Chris Voshall, Mizuno R & D said: "Overall - each model got even more specifically designed to do exactly what it's supposed to do. The most extreme models in the line – Tour and Hot Metal HL have pushed further to those extremes. The new Tour is by far the most ‘Mizuno Pro’ looking JPX iron we’ve ever released. The Hot Metal HL takes us into new territory of forgiveness – but within an acceptable Mizuno template. Every model revolves around the new V-Chassis – which allowed us to dial in a very typical Mizuno vibration pattern, without the need to thicken the toplines. So they’re all very nicely in proportion for their size

Some finer points: Mizuno have used a brand new V-Chassis which delivers a pure feel, whilst also allowing them to maintain proportions and those all important looks over the ball

They’ve also used Nickel infused Chromoloy, which is some 35% stronger than their original iron material. It’s a brand new material with so much additional ball speed, that Mizuno’s engineers switched their focus to feel and stopping power.

For increased stopping power Mizuno employed their seamless cup face construction which delivers the deep centre of gravity needed for a high launch and controllable landing angle.

To prove consistent ball speeds right across the face the thinnest part of the sole has been extended 18% wider than their previous model, creating a wider high-energy area.

Mizuno have used their white-satin brush finish which is a non-reflective, Chrome plated finish helping to reduce bright light glare at address.

Mizuno also have every conceivable custom option covered with their expanded head options which combined over 50 custom shafts can provide specific trajectory, ball speed and ease of use. This will create options for elite tour players, top amateurs, slower swinging amateur golfers and every player in between.

“The new JPX923 series was meticulously planned with Mizuno’s custom fitting ethos at its core.

We already offer more than 50 unique shafts within our custom program, by expanding to five iron models, there’s an ideal combination for every type of player.”

David Llewellyn – Director of R&D

There are so many different kinds of player seeking to play Mizuno irons nowadays that they have created three Hot Metal versions.

The JPX923 Hot Metal HL: A higher launching option for players with moderate swing speeds or aggressive shaft lean

JPX923 Hot Metal: A full speed, high stability cavity for straight flight and distance.

JPX923 Hot Metal Pro: Compact, with minimal offset for confident ball-strikers seeking maximum ball speed.
