Cleveland RTZ 2 Wedges: New Technology, Grinds and Launch Details

Cleveland RTZ 2 Wedges

Cleveland RTZ 2 Wedges

The new Cleveland RTZ 2 Wedges bring together more than 40 years of short-game knowledge, modern material engineering and an extensive selection of loft and grind options. Designed with input from Roger Cleveland, Cleveland Golf engineers and Tour professionals, the RTZ 2 range is built to deliver refined feel, reliable spin and improved consistency from a wide variety of lies.

With lofts ranging from 46° through to 64°, five specialist sole grinds and a choice of Tour Satin, Black Satin and Tour Rack finishes, the range gives golfers considerable freedom when creating a personalised wedge setup.

The Cleveland RTZ 2 Wedges will be available to order and purchase on the following dates:

Release stage Date
Presale 21st August 2026
Official launch 4th September 2026

WHAT ARE THE CLEVELAND RTZ 2 WEDGES?

The Cleveland RTZ 2 is a premium blade-style wedge family designed to provide golfers with greater control over full approaches, pitches, chips, bunker shots and delicate greenside play.

Rather than relying on one standard sole shape throughout the range, Cleveland offers several loft, bounce and grind combinations. This makes it possible to select wedges according to swing delivery, preferred shot type and typical course conditions.

The main technologies include:

  • Roger Cleveland Signature Grinds
  • ZipCore iQ weighting
  • Proprietary Z-Alloy construction
  • HydraZip face treatment
  • UltiZip groove geometry
  • Traditional and full-face groove options

These technologies are designed to work together, combining feel and forgiveness with the spin and trajectory control expected from a specialist scoring club.

ROGER CLEVELAND SIGNATURE GRINDS

Roger Cleveland played a leading role in the development of every RTZ 2 sole grind. Working alongside Cleveland Golf engineers and Tour professionals, he helped refine the sole shapes to provide different levels of bounce, turf interaction and face-opening versatility.

The range also sees the return of the recognised 588 grind, which blends classic wedge shaping with the materials and face technologies used throughout the RTZ 2 family.

Golfers can choose from five primary grinds:

  • LOW - 6° of bounce
  • ADAPT - 8° of bounce with full-face grooves
  • 588 - 8° of bounce
  • MID - 10° of bounce
  • FULL - 12° of bounce

The availability of each grind varies by loft, finish and handedness, making wedge fitting especially valuable when choosing an RTZ 2 setup.

ZIPCORE IQ WEIGHTING

ZipCore iQ uses optimised hosel cores tailored to individual loft and grind combinations. Rather than applying the same internal construction to every wedge, Cleveland uses multiple lightweight core variations to manage mass more precisely throughout the head.

Redistributing weight can improve the balance of the wedge and help produce more consistent performance across a wider section of the face. This is particularly useful on partial shots and greenside strikes, where contact may not always occur perfectly in the centre.

The purpose of ZipCore iQ is to provide more dependable launch, spin and control while preserving the compact appearance associated with a traditional blade wedge.

SOFTER Z-ALLOY CONSTRUCTION

The RTZ 2 head is manufactured from Cleveland Golf's proprietary Z-Alloy steel. The material is described as softer and less dense than traditional wedge steels while remaining durable enough for regular play.

The reduced density gives Cleveland greater freedom when positioning weight within the head, supporting the ZipCore iQ design and helping create a more balanced overall construction.

For golfers, the intended benefits include:

  • A softer impact sensation
  • Improved feedback on short-game shots
  • Greater consistency across the face
  • Additional forgiveness on imperfect contact
  • Durable performance throughout the season

Tour Satin and Black Satin models use chrome-plated Z-Alloy, while Tour Rack wedges feature a raw Z-Alloy construction.

RTZ 2 Tour Satin Lifestyle

HYDRAZIP FOR WET-WEATHER SPIN

HydraZip combines specialised face blasting with laser-milled lines to help preserve spin when moisture is present between the ball and clubface.

Wet grass, damp fairways and moisture on the golf ball can reduce friction at impact. HydraZip is designed to manage those difficult conditions by supporting a cleaner interaction between the face and the ball.

The treatment is dynamically configured according to loft grouping. This allows Cleveland to balance spin across the range rather than applying an identical face treatment to every wedge.

For golfers who regularly play in changeable UK conditions, wet-weather spin performance can be especially important when controlling approach shots and pitches into the green.

ULTIZIP GROOVES

UltiZip grooves feature sharper edges and deeper geometry designed to cut through grass and debris at impact. The additional groove volume creates more space for moisture, dirt and sand to move away from the strike area.

This helps retain friction and supports stronger, more consistent spin from several common lies, including:

  • Closely mown fairways
  • Light and heavy rough
  • Greenside bunkers
  • Damp turf
  • Partial wedge distances

Traditional grooves are used across most RTZ 2 models, while the ADAPT grind extends the grooves across more of the face for added versatility when the club is opened.

RTZ 2 Family Lifestyle

LOW GRIND: 6° BOUNCE

The LOW grind offers the least bounce in the RTZ 2 range. It is available in selected higher-lofted wedges and is intended for golfers who want the leading edge to sit close to the ground.

It may suit players with a shallower delivery, golfers who regularly play from firm turf or those who like to open the face for creative greenside shots.

Because lower-bounce soles provide less resistance to digging, they generally require more precise delivery than a higher-bounce option.

ADAPT GRIND: 8° BOUNCE AND FULL-FACE GROOVES

The ADAPT grind combines 8° of bounce with full-face groove coverage. It is designed for players who frequently alter the face angle and use different strike locations when creating short-game shots.

Extending the grooves across more of the face can help retain spin when the clubface is opened, particularly on lob shots, bunker shots and recovery shots around the green.

The ADAPT grind is offered in selected 54°, 56°, 58°, 60° and 64° options, although finish and handedness availability varies.

588 GRIND: 8° BOUNCE

The returning 588 grind draws inspiration from one of Roger Cleveland's best-known wedge designs. It combines moderate bounce with traditional groove coverage and a versatile sole profile.

This option is aimed at golfers who appreciate classic wedge shaping but want the benefits of modern RTZ 2 face technology, weighting and Z-Alloy construction.

The 588 grind is available in 54°, 56°, 58° and 60° lofts.

MID GRIND: 10° BOUNCE

The MID grind is the most widely available option in the Cleveland RTZ 2 range. It provides a balanced 10° of bounce and is offered from 46° through to 60° in selected finishes.

Its all-round sole design is intended to provide dependable turf interaction across a broad range of swings and conditions. It can be used for full approaches, controlled pitches, chips and bunker shots without being overly specialised towards one particular technique.

For golfers unsure which grind to choose, the MID grind is likely to provide the most neutral starting point before a professional fitting.

FULL GRIND: 12° BOUNCE

The FULL grind offers the highest bounce in the RTZ 2 family. Its 12° sole is designed to resist excessive digging through softer turf and sand.

This may suit golfers with steeper attack angles, players who take deeper divots or anyone who regularly plays on softer golf courses.

The added bounce can also provide additional confidence in bunkers by helping the sole move through the sand rather than allowing the leading edge to dig too deeply.

LOFT OPTIONS FROM 46° TO 64°

The RTZ 2 range covers lofts from 46° through to 64°, enabling golfers to create a wedge setup that blends effectively with their iron set.

The available lofts are:

  • 46°
  • 48°
  • 50°
  • 52°
  • 54°
  • 56°
  • 58°
  • 60°
  • 62°
  • 64°

The 46° and 48° options use a MID grind with 10° of bounce and may work well as pitching-wedge or gap-wedge replacements. The 50° and 52° models also use the MID grind, while the higher lofts introduce the broader LOW, ADAPT, 588, MID and FULL grind selection.

HOW TO BUILD AN RTZ 2 WEDGE SET

When selecting wedges, loft spacing should be considered alongside the loft of the shortest iron in the set. Many golfers prefer gaps of approximately 4° to 6°, although the correct setup depends on individual carry distances and shot preferences.

Possible combinations could include:

  • Traditional three-wedge setup: 50°, 54° and 58°
  • Four-wedge setup: 46°, 50°, 54° and 58°
  • Higher-lofted setup: 48°, 52°, 56° and 60°
  • Specialist greenside setup: 50°, 54°, 58° and 62°

The loft numbers alone do not tell the complete story. Bounce, grind, typical turf conditions and delivery should all be considered before choosing the final combination.

TOUR SATIN FINISH

Tour Satin uses chrome-plated Z-Alloy and provides a traditional silver wedge appearance. It offers high glare reduction and is available in the broadest combination of loft, grind and handedness options.

This finish is likely to suit golfers who want classic styling, familiar visuals at address and a durable plated surface.

BLACK SATIN FINISH

Black Satin also uses chrome-plated Z-Alloy but presents a darker, more contemporary appearance. Like Tour Satin, it provides high glare reduction.

The dark finish can create a compact look behind the ball and may appeal to golfers who prefer reduced visual brightness at address.

TOUR RACK RAW FINISH

Tour Rack models use raw Z-Alloy and provide the highest level of glare reduction within the range. They are also the only finish listed with access to custom grinds.

As a raw wedge, the finish will naturally change with exposure and use. This developing appearance is expected and is often preferred by golfers who like the look and feel of an unplated wedge.

STOCK SHAFT OPTIONS

Tour Satin and Black Satin RTZ 2 Wedges are fitted as standard with the True Temper Dynamic Gold Spinner Tour Issue. The 128g wedge-flex shaft is designed to produce a mid launch with mid-high spin.

Tour Rack models use the True Temper Dynamic Gold Tour Issue S400. This 132g shaft delivers a lower launch with a mid-spin profile.

Shaft Weight Launch Spin Finish availability
Dynamic Gold Spinner Tour Issue 128g Mid Mid-High Tour Satin / Black Satin
Dynamic Gold Tour Issue S400 132g Low Mid Tour Rack

GOLF PRIDE TOUR VELVET 360 GRIP

The stock grip is the Golf Pride Tour Velvet 360 in a standard size. It has a .580" core and weighs 52g.

The 360-degree design allows the grip to retain a consistent appearance regardless of how the club is installed or orientated, making it suitable for custom wedge builds and adjustments.

LEFT-HANDED RTZ 2 OPTIONS

Cleveland has included a broad selection of left-handed models within the Tour Satin range. Left-handed golfers can choose from several loft and grind combinations, including MID, LOW, ADAPT, 588 and FULL options in selected lofts.

Not every finish or grind is offered in both hands, so golfers should check individual model availability when creating a complete wedge set.

WHO SHOULD CONSIDER THE CLEVELAND RTZ 2?

The RTZ 2 range could suit a wide variety of golfers because of its extensive loft and grind selection.

It may be especially suitable for players who:

  • Want a softer-feeling blade-style wedge
  • Require more dependable spin in wet conditions
  • Want several sole grinds from which to choose
  • Prefer traditional or full-face groove configurations
  • Need lofts ranging from pitching-wedge replacement through to specialist lob wedge
  • Want a choice of plated, black or raw finishes
  • Value Tour-influenced shaping and sole design

WHY PROFESSIONAL WEDGE FITTING MATTERS

Wedge fitting is about more than choosing a preferred loft. Bounce and sole shape affect how the club interacts with the turf, while grind selection influences how easily the face can be opened or manipulated.

A professional fitting can help assess:

  • Current wedge carry distances
  • Loft gaps between scoring clubs
  • Angle of attack and divot pattern
  • Typical turf and bunker conditions
  • Preferred greenside shots
  • Full-shot versus partial-shot usage
  • Suitable shaft weight and feel

With so many RTZ 2 combinations available, fitting can help narrow the selection and create a more effective short-game setup.

CLEVELAND RTZ 2 PRESALE AND LAUNCH DATES

The Cleveland RTZ 2 Wedges presale begins on 21st August 2026, giving golfers the opportunity to secure their preferred loft, grind, finish and handedness ahead of the official release.

The official Cleveland RTZ 2 launch takes place on 4th September 2026.

Some combinations may be more popular or produced in smaller quantities than others, particularly specialist grinds, left-handed models and Tour Rack options. Golfers with a specific setup in mind may therefore benefit from ordering during the presale period.

FINAL THOUGHTS

The Cleveland RTZ 2 Wedge range brings together detailed sole design, optimised internal weighting and face technologies created to improve performance in a broad range of short-game situations.

ZipCore iQ supports consistent weighting and forgiveness, Z-Alloy provides a softer feel, HydraZip targets wet-weather spin, and UltiZip grooves help manage grass, sand and moisture at impact. Combined with five sole grinds and lofts from 46° to 64°, the range provides enough variety to build a highly individual wedge setup.

With the presale beginning on 21st August 2026 and the official launch following on 4th September 2026, the Cleveland RTZ 2 is set to become an important new option for golfers looking to improve their scoring performance around the green.
