Ian Poulter said he was fortunate to make the cut on the number this week after hitting less than 56 percent of the greens in regulation during the second round.
But he did, and that left him in the first group going out in Saturday’s third round. With pristine greens to put on, Poulter took advantage, shooting a third-round 6-under 66 to move up the leaderboard.
"Guess I change the alarm clock from 5 something to 10 something tomorrow, hopefully, and go out there and have some fun," he joked after his round.
Poulter’s Cobra irons were more accurate Saturday, as he played bogey-free golf. He also rolled in a couple of lengthy putts for birdies, including at the 18th hole when he drained a putt from just inside 19 feet.
But Poulter, who broke through with his first TOUR win earlier this year at the World Golf Championships-Accenture Match Play Championship, said his round actually could’ve been lower.
"I left a few shots out there," Poulter said. "But it’s a round of golf I’m happy with. I’m well positioned for tomorrow."
Since his win in February, Poulter has struggled to regain his form. His only top-10 finish since then was a tie for 10th at the Masters, and he didn’t contend in any of the other majors. At Whistling Straits, he pulled out on the weekend with an illness.
"My putter cooled off the middle part of the year, but to be honest, I’m playing some great golf right now," he said.
One thing Poulter won’t have to worry about is worrying about his place on the European Ryder Cup team. Two years ago, he was a controversial pick by Nick Faldo, but this year he sealed a spot on merit.
"That’s been a relief," he said.

Italian Francesco Molinari becomes the seventh confirmed member of Europe's 2010 Ryder Cup Team at Gleneagles.
Molinari cannot be denied a debut now that Ross McGowan is out of the final counting event, the Johnnie Walker Championship at Gleneagles, with a shoulder injury.
"It feels great, but maybe it's not the best way to make the team," said Molinari, who could yet be joined by his brother Edoardo in Colin Montgomerie's Team. "I feel sorry for Ross.
"It's been a dream - one of the goals for the season - and I used to look at it as something I would never achieve."
Molinari was sent a text message by coach Dennis Pugh on Sunday night saying he had qualified, but that changed on Monday when Miguel Angel Jiménez changed his mind about taking the week off.
"I said 'never send me a text like that again'."
The first Italian to make the Ryder Cup was Costantino Rocca. He played in 1993, 1995 and 1997, famously beating Tiger Woods in singles at Valderrama.
Molinari won the Omega Mission Hills World Cup with his brother in China in November, and Edoardo could join him if Captain Montgomerie gives him a wild card on Sunday.
Vice Captain Paul McGinley was full of praise for the 27 year old after he secured his place at The Celtic Manor Resort.
"He's had a great season," said the Irishman. "He reminds me a lot about myself when I made my teams, he's been very consistent, seems to be top ten every week, there and thereabouts and he'll be a great asset because he's a guy that can blend with anybody.
"Great personality, easy going, no big problems, no big dramas with him. So he'll be an easy guy to play with whoever plays with him."
Molinari joins Lee Westwood, Rory McIlroy, Ian Poulter, Martin Kaymer, Graeme McDowell and Ross Fisher in confirming his place

Ernie and Phil gearing up for FedExCup Playoffs
Callaway Staff Professional Fredrik Jacobson used a scorching final round at the Wyndham Championship to finish tied for 12th. Jacobson shot an 8-under-par 62 to the tune of eight birdies and no bogeys. He made five birdies on the back nine.
Jacobson uses the FT Tour Driver,
a Big Bertha Diablo 3-wood, a Heavenwood Hybrid,
Diablo Forged Irons, X-Forged Wedges, the Tour iz Golf Ball and an Odyssey Black Series i #1 Putter.
Fellow Callaway Staff Pro Jeev Milkha Singh tied for 18th position at the Wyndham Championship. Singh carded four rounds in the 60s.
This week, the FedExCup Playoffs get started on the PGA Tour with The Barclays in New Jersey. Stay tuned in the coming weeks as Ernie Els looks to keep his name atop the FedExCup standings. Els has two victories this year on the PGA Tour—the WGC-CA Championship at Doral and the Arnold Palmer Invitational—and has been one of the most consistent performers all season long.
"I want to work hard on my short game and get myself in the right mindset for the FedEx Cup Playoffs," Els wrote in his weekly diary following the PGA Championship. "I've held on to my place on top of the Points List and also the Money List, so if I can play well for the next three or four weeks it could be a great end to the season. As I've said before, I'm going to keep pushing myself and give it my maximum effort."
Phil Mickelson comes into The Barclays sitting in fourth place in the standings. Stuart Appleby (30th) and Fredrik Jacobson (37th) are also in good position to make a run in the Playoffs. J.J. Henry, Alex Cejka, Derek Lamely, Shaun Micheel and Cameron Beckman have all qualified for this week's event in Jersey.
Meanwhile, on the LPGA Tour this past weekend, the winner of the Safeway Classic used the Odyssey White Hot XG Teron Putter to win by two shots.

Monday Qualifier Atwal Takes Wyndham Championship
Atwal of Taylormade and Ping Golf won by a stroke Sunday at Sedgefield Country Club, becoming the first Monday qualifier to win on the TOUR in 24 years.
After leading or sharing the lead after each of the first three rounds, Atwal shot a 3-under 67 in the final round. He finished at 20-under 260 and earned $918,000 -- or, more than double the amount he previously earned this year, the reason why his future on TOUR had been in jeopardy.
"I told my caddie, 'We've got nothing to lose this week. Just go out there and try and win it,'" Atwal whose using his NEW Ping S56 Irons said. "Guys are going to be out there trying to secure their FedExCup spots or whatever. We've got nothing. I don't have a card. I don't have anything. Just go out there and free-wheel it, and that's what I did this week."
He's the first Indian-born player to win on TOUR and the first to win both the qualifier and the tournament that follows since Fred Wadsworth at the 1986 Southern Open.
David Toms (64) was 19 under. John Mallinger and Michael Sim shot 62s to match John Rollins (65) and Justin Leonard (65) at 18 under.
For a few dizzying moments late in a low-scoring day, seven players shared the lead at 18 under.
Atwal who was using a Taylormade Burner Superfast Driver, who carried a three-stroke lead into the final round, was at 19 under for most of the day but bogeyed the par-3 12th a few minutes before Lucas Glover of Nike Golf bogeyed 14 and Toms, Rollins and Leonard all birdied No. 16.
The 2010 PGA TOUR Playoffs for the FedExCup start next week. To see who finished inside the top 125 on the points list to advance, click here.
"It just kept changing," Atwal said. "Everybody's tied for the lead at a certain point."
Atwal reclaimed the lead with a birdie on No. 14 with his Ping Karsten Putter, Leonard birdied No. 17 and Toms birdied No. 18 to join them at 19 under. Leonard dropped back a stroke after running into trouble on 18, while Atwal still had three holes to play -- giving him more than enough chances to settle things himself.
Atwal who uses a Titliest Pro V1 X Golf Ball made his move on the par-3 16th, plopping his tee shot 6 feet from the flagstick and sinking his birdie putt to move to 20 under. He followed that with consecutive pars, sinking a 7-foot putt on No. 18 before dropping his putter and extending his arms upward in jubilation after closing out his first tour victory.
"I was thinking about going to the (driving) range, but when he got to 20 under and they said he had a 15-footer on 17, I just went in the clubhouse and tried to cool off," Toms said. "I was ready to go to the range, if need be, but good for (Atwal). I know it's tough to get that first victory. ... I'm sure that he was battling some nerves, and to pour it in from 6-8 feet on that last hole was pretty impressive."
Mickelson freshens FT Tour Driver with NEW Shaft
Phil Mickelson had a new shaft in his FT Tour Driver this week at Firestone. Mickelson worked with Callaway's R&D Department, going with a shorter shaft-from 45 inches down to 44 inches
-in an effort to better control his tee shots on some tight courses that are on the schedule in the coming weeks.
According to Alan Hocknell, Phil already gets plenty of distance from his FT Tour Driver, so he wasn't worried at all about losing any yards off the tee. The new shaft is a 93g XX Mitsubishi
Diamana Blueboard. He had previously been using a 73g Fubuki shaft. To keep the swing weight consistent (in the D2 range) Callaway's R&D gang also added 10 grams of weight to the carbon
composite head of the FT Tour Driver. And they bent the hosel of the driver, adjusting the lie angle to make it slightly more upright. The work was done mostly at the Ely Callaway Performance
Center in Carlsbad last Friday.
Global Superstar Camilo Villegas to join Taylormade Adidas Golf in 2011
Ranked No. 25 in the World, the Three-Time PGA Tour Winner is One of the Brightest Stars in Professional Golf
Basingstoke, Hants (August 3, 2010) – PGA Tour professional Camilo Villegas, currently No. 25 in the World Golf Rankings, will join the TaylorMade-adidas Golf Tour Staff in 2011.
Villegas, 28, will play TaylorMade® clubs, a TaylorMade ball, wear TaylorMade headwear, wear a TaylorMade glove, use a TaylorMade staff bag and wear adidas Golf footwear. More details on the relationship between Villegas and TMaG will be revealed on 9 September.
“Camilo is a winner, a gentleman, and a fan favourite," said Mark King, president and CEO of TaylorMade-adidas Golf. “Cameras tend to find him because he has presence and magnetism that's impressive and rare. Camilo also shares the same values with our brand and our people, including a burning desire to improve and reach his potential. We very much want to help him do that, which is why we believe this is a great fit."
Villegas' charisma and aggressive style of play made him an instant sensation on the PGA Tour. He is well known to golf fans for his efficient swing and seemingly effortless power, as well as his signature "Spiderman crouch” when he reads putts, which prompted fans from his home town to nickname him "Hombre Arana." His popularity has also attracted plenty of attention off the golf course, where he has been featured in GQ Magazine and named one of People Magazine’s “hottest bachelors” in 2006.
A native of Medellin, Colombia, Villegas notched two runner-up finishes and a total of four top-tens in 2006, his rookie year. His breakthrough triumph came at the 2008 BMW Championship, where he became the first Colombian to win on the PGA Tour; he also captured the TOUR Championship later that year. His most recent victory was the 2010 Honda Classic. He has also won twice internationally: the 2001 Columbian Open and the 2007 Coca-Cola Tokai Classic.
Other members of the renowned TaylorMade Tour Staff include Justin Rose, Martin Kaymer, Dustin Johnson, Kenny Perry, Y.E. Yang, Jason Day, Retief Goosen, Sean O'Hair, Sergio Garcia, Edoardo Molinari, Darren Clarke, Mike Weir and Rory Sabbatini.
The PGA Tour was north of the border this week for the RBC Canadian Open in Toronto, and Callaway Golf Staff Professional J.J. Henry was in
prime position after day two. After carding a 3-under-par 67 in Thursday’s first round, Henry was 5-under-par during his second round on Friday.
Using the FT Tour Driver, a Big Bertha Fusion 3-wood, an X-Tour 2-iron, X-Forged Irons (4-9), the Tour i(s) Golf Ball and an
Odyssey White Hot #2 Center Shafted Putter, Henry made
five birdies and one bogey on the front nine on Friday. He was 8-under for the tournament, one shot behind the leader, while still playing the back nine
in the second round. Henry was also averaging nearly 300 yards off the tee and had hit more than 90 percent of greens in regulation.
Callaway Golf Staff Professional Brian Stuard was at 4-under-par for the tournament. He opened with a 5-under 65 on Thursday,
and finished with a 1-over-par 71 on Friday. Nicholas Thompson was at 5-under for the tournament on Friday. He opened with a
66 on Thursday. Fellow Callaway GolfStaff Pros James Nitties was at 3-under-par for the tournament. The leader was at 9-under-par on Friday.

Taylormade Adidas Tour Staff professional Paula Creamer Earns Breakthrough U.S. Women’s Open Win and Taylormade Adidas Tour Staff professional Edoardo Molinari Wins Scottish Open
Basingstoke, Hants (July 13, 2010) – TaylorMade-adidas Tour Staff professional Paula Creamer conquered the fairways and greens of storied Oakmont Country Club with her R9 SuperTri driver and a Ghost
putter yesterday to win her first major championship, the U.S. Women's Open. Creamer, 23, finished at three-under and won by four; she was the only
competitor to break par
Fighting a painful thumb that was surgically repaired in March, and which limited her to just 40 warm-up shots before each round, Creamer overcame the
distraction to conquer classic U.S. Open conditions – heavy rough, narrow fairways and super-slick greens. Her victory was rooted in four rounds of
excellent driving and putting. Her ball-striking peaked on the back nine on Sunday when she hit one solid shot after another down the stretch,
leading to crucial back-to-back birdies at the par-four 14th and 15th holes.
"The way Paula played down the stretch to put the tournament away was flat-out fantastic," said Mark King, TaylorMade-adidas Golf president and CEO.
"Her win has made what's been a great summer for us even better. Her driving and putting, which are so critical at a U.S. Open, were phenomenal,
and we're glad she trusted the R9 SuperTri driver and the Ghost putter. We're incredibly proud of the resilience and toughness she showed in winning her
first major championship."
The Pink Panther, as Creamer is affectionately known, beat the heat and humidity of July in Pennsylvania with the help of adidas Golf's ClimaCool apparel,
and maintained her traction throughout the week by wearing her signature adidas Golf PAULA footwear.
Meanwhile, TMaG Tour Staff professional Edoardo Molinari enjoyed a brilliant tune-up to the Open Championship at St. Andrews, winning the Scottish Open by three strokes to win for the first time on the European Tour. Molinari (-12) relied on an R9 SuperTri driver and Penta TP golf ball to hit 75% of his fairways, which was critical to his success in the often windy and rainy conditions. Fellow TaylorMade Tour Staffer Darren Clarke finished second using the Daytona Ghost putter, earning a coveted berth in this week's Open Championship. Clarke also won last week's prestigious J.P. McManus International Pro-Am against a star-studded field.
On the PGA Tour, TaylorMade Tour Staff professional Paul Goydos also earned a spot in the Open Championship field with his runner-up at the John Deere
Classic. Goydos, who recorded the fourth 59 in PGA Tour history in the first round, will compete in the Open Championship for just the third time in his
career.
Quotes: Paula Creamer
"I switched my putter this week. Last week I went through two-putters, and the week before I had a 2-ball. This week I had a Ghost TaylorMade, Daytona
putter. I went back to just the standard-looking putter. I think that helped a lot, because there is so much going on in these greens that you just have
to focus on that. I was kind of getting a little bit crazy with where my putter face was aiming and all this, and so I switched to my putter this week."

Phil Mickelson of Callaway Golf claimed his third Masters Tournament title following a composed final round performance, with Lee Westwood finishing in second place.
Mickelson - who triumphed at Augusta National in 2004 and 2006 - carded a bogey-free 67 to finish on 16 under, three clear of Ping Golf Westwood, who struggled to repeat the stunning form he showed over the first three days of the tournament.
Anthony Kim was third on 12 under after equalling the lowest round of the week with a dazzling 65, while Tiger Woods finished a shot further back alongside playing partner KJ Choi.
Although Woods equalled a Masters record with four eagles in his first tournament back for almost five months - two of them came in his rollercoaster closing 69 for joint fourth place - the headlines will go quite rightly to the left-hander.
It feels incredible,” Mickelson said. “I could go on and on, there’s so many reasons why, but to win this tournament it’s the most amazing feeling.
“I’ll look back on this day as very memorable. It’s something I’ll always cherish.”
It started as the week Woods came back to golf, but ended as the week when Mickelson proved again he is the world number one's biggest rival.
He wore a pink breast cancer badge in his cap to remind people of the battles both his wife and mother have been fighting and admitted afterwards that he was thrilled to come through a trying period in their lives.
“It’s been an emotional year and I’m very proud of my wife and the fight and struggle she’s been through,” Mickelson added.
“It’s been a difficult year and to come out on top in this tournament is very emotional. It feels terrific.
“It is one of the best things we’ve gone through.
“Last year we’ve been through a lot, it’s been tough and to be on the other end and feel this kind of jubilation is incredible.”
Two shots above all others will be replayed over and over when the story of this incredible week is retold.
First there was Mickelson’s eagle two on the 14th in the third round as he moved one behind Westwood entering the closing 18 holes.
But that was trumped by his second shot to the long 13th on Sunday.
One ahead of Choi after the Korean had just taken a bogey six there, Mickelson hit his drive through the fairway into the trees and onto the pine straw.
In front of him was a gap of no more than four feet between two trunks, but in the manner for which he has become known Mickelson decided to go for the 200-yard shot over Rae's Creek.
Spectacularly - even he showed that by raising his club in triumph and then punching the air - he hit it to four feet.
It warranted his third eagle of the week on the hole, but although he missed the putt Choi bogeyed the 14th as well.
Westwood matched Mickelson's birdie to stay two back and still had hopes of making his 50th attempt to win a Major the one when he finally broke through.
But the Worksop golfer could not match Mickelson's two-putt birdie at the long 15th and, although Westwood picked up another shot with a birdie at 17, he had to settle for second place.
“I am a little bit disappointed because I came so close to winning the tournament,” said Westwood. “But I didn’t get off to a fast enough start.
“If I could have got to a couple under par after five or six holes then it might have been a different story.
“But Phil hit some good shots around Amen Corner and they are not easy shots that he has pulled off there so he is a deserving winner.”
Mickelson added: “I needed to make birdies. There were a lot of fireworks going on ahead of us.
“For me the big key was (hole) 12 again, because just like in 2004 I hit the ball in the same spot, I knew that putt and I ended up making that and that gave me a little advantage heading into 13 and 15.
“Fortunately I was able to reach those in two and make birdies.”
Kim finished one behind Westwood following a stunning charge that saw him pick up five shots in four holes from the 13th.
Woods, meanwhile, had to settle for a share of fourth, following a closing round that veered from the sublime to the ridiculous.
KJ Choi followed a faultless three under par front nine with another birdie at ten to briefly move into a share of the lead, before falling away over the closing holes.
Fred Couples’ bid to become the oldest Masters champion also faltered on the back nine, the 50-year-old running up a double bogey five on the short 12th.
Fellow American Nick Watney made stunning progress on the final day and his 65 was enough to earn seventh spot.
Miguel Angel Jimenez ended the week in a tie for 12th following a final round of 66, while Ian Poulter who was wearing the NEW IJP Hot Pink Tartan Trousers was a shot further back on five under following a closing 73.
Sixteen year old amateur Matteo Manassero carded a 72 to finish on a creditable four over, while the crowd on the par three 16th were treated to hole in ones from Nathan Green and Ryan Moore.

Wait, weren't we here just two weeks ago? Ernie Els rode the same Callaway bag to
victory at the Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by MasterCard that he did at the World Golf Championships-CA Championship at Doral 15 days earlier.
The driver was the Callaway FT Tour, which has now been in the bags of four straight PGA TOUR winners -- but just three actual bags: Els at Doral, Derek
Lamely in Puerto Rico, Jim Furyk at the Transitions -- and Els again at Bay Hill.
Els was fourth in the field in putts per green in regulation with 1.68 and T9 in putts per round with an average of 28. That kind of solid performance
will certainly help going into the toughest putting test of the year, the Masters, next week. Ernie's wand of choice lately has been the
Odyssey White Ice #3 model
, whose face insert has a hard inner layer for consistent distance control. The outer layer has a rough texture to enhance the sound when face meets ball.
And the friction gets the forward roll started sooner, preventing the kind of skidding that can knock a putt off course,
Odyssey designers say.
Ernie used Callaway X-Forged Wedges, designed by short-game genius Roger Cleveland. The grooves, which
of course conform to the new condition of competition, are nonetheless "aggressively sized," as Callaway puts it, on selected 56- to 64-degree models.
The informal name for the grooves around Callaway during development was "Mack Daddy," after it became clear that Phil Mickelson liked them; he may even
get credit for coming up with the nickname. In any event, it has stuck.
About the only player with as much momentum as Els is Fred Couples, who in three Champions Tour starts has won 'em all and never shot more than 68 doing it.
This is great news for Bridgestone, whose banner Couples carries, especially since he will play the
Masters, where he won in 1992. Talking to people close to Bridgestone's U.S. operations (it's part of the massive Japanese rubber and industrial
products company), you get the idea that they feel anything could happen, even with Couples playing his first Masters since he turned 50.
But let's not make too much of this age thing. The ball Couples plays, a
Bridgestone B330RX, is designed to work best for players who move the driver at 112 mph -- or more. So clearly Fred's easy move actually packs a
substantial portion of controlled violence.
Open de Andalucia de Golf, Parador de Málaga Golf, Málaga, Spain
South African Louis Oosthuizen put four runners-up finishes behind him to land his first European Tour title.
And with victory in the Open de Andalucia de Golf in Malaga comes a return trip to Augusta for the Masters Tournament in two weeks.
The 27 year old had to win to climb into The World's Top 50.
With a closing three under par 67 Oosthuizen won by three from England's Richard Finch and Scot Peter Whiteford.
He did it in impressive fashion, taking over at the top with a second day 63 and closing with rounds of 66 and 67 for a 17 under aggregate of 263.
After being drenched in champagne by fellow countryman Thomas Aiken and then kissing his wife and three month old daughter Jana he said: "I was quite nervous down the stretch and very nervous on the 18th tee.
"I just decided to hit it as hard as I could."
He added: “Now I want to stay in the top 50 and be competitive every time I play.”
After three birdies in his first five Oosthuizen had opened the gap, but a three putt bogey at the 409-yard seventh gave the chasing pack hope.
Whiteford suddenly emerged as the biggest threat thanks to five birdies in eight holes around the turn.
The 29 year old from Kirkcaldy had a chance to move only one behind when he hit a superb approach to 12 feet on the long 14th.
But he missed that and when he three putted the next for bogey it made life a lot easier for Oosthuizen.
Finch always looked too far behind after double bogeying the short ninth, but two closing birdies gave him a 67 and brought him alongside Whiteford.
"All in all I'm delighted," Finch said.
Fellow Englishman Robert Coles was second at the start of the day, but a one over 71 saw him slip to joint fourth with Italian Francesco Molinari.
Villegaswins Honda Classic using Cobra Golf Equipment and a final-round 68 to win The Honda Classic by five shots Sunday over Anthony Kim, his third PGA TOUR victory and a perfect way to
cap a week that began with one celebration and ended with another.
He finished at 13-under 267, the lowest 72-hole score since the Honda moved to PGA National in 2007, four shots better than Y.E. Yang's winning total a year ago. And Villegas made it look easy most of the way, too, capping his day with a 20-footer for birdie, then raising both hands skyward.
"I've just had good vibes in me all week," said Villegas, who climbed to No. 12 in the world rankings. He led by only two after Vijay Singh made a 45-foot
birdie putt at the par-3 fifth, but three straight birdies -- starting with a 25-footer on No. 8 -- sent Villegas to 15 under and six shots clear of the
field.
Good thing he had that cushion, because the putter stopped working after that.
Fortunately for Villegas, no one made much of a run.
"It's very special," Villegas said. "I'm just very privileged to do what I do. But trust me, it's tough. These guys are good. That is so true.
Those guys are good."
He missed short par putts on 11 and 12, three-putted from 50 feet on the par-3 15th for another bogey, but never lost control of the lead and ended up
pocketing the $1.008 million winner's share. Villegas's win is a second in just three weeks for Cobra
Staff Professionals following Ian Poulters win in the Accenture WGC Matchplay Championship in February. Camiilo plays a
Cobra Driver, Cobra Irons,
wears Cobra Headwear and sports a Cobra Golf Bag.
Robert Karlsson won the 2010 Qatar Masters on Sunday after a bogey free final round 65 at the Doha Golf Club. The Titleist golf woods and Footjoy golf shoes Staff Professional spent most of 2009 on the sidelines with an eye injury but has now started his 2010 campaign in the best possible fashion.
Karlssons Titleist 909 D2 Driver
was a key factor in his win and also using the Titleist Pro V1X golf ball helped his short game skills to be razor sharp all week long.
Fellow Footjoy shoes professional and last years Race to Dubai winner Lee Westwood who also uses Ping Golf Woods finished in a tie for Third after making some late mistakes to help Karlssons win that little bit easier. Westwood has birdied 4 holes on the back 9 until he reached the 16th where he made an untidy Bogey to allow Karlsson a two shot lead.
With his Titleist golf Irons Karlsson then hit a superb close iron shot into the tricky par 3 17th thats sourounded by danger and cooley slotted home for a birdie two, whilst Westwood slipped agonizingly by and could only manage a par.
It left Karlsson to then hit his Third shot close into the par 5 18th where Westwood could only two putt for par to finish on 11 under.
Alvaro Quiros of Callaway golf finished second for the week after hitting the 18th in Two with his Callaway Woods and then easily Two putting for birdie to finsih on 12 under par.
Karlsson after win:
"It has surprised me a little bit," he added. "Especially the way I played during the final round. But if you go out and shoot a 65 on the last day of a tournament after being a couple behind, usually you will have a good chance and obviously it was my day."
